Conspiracies. Quarantine. And a mysterious briefcase...

"There is no denying the feeling of paranoid terror that seeps from this well crafted novel."--HorrorNews.net

Layne Prescott, a former high school teacher returning to America after months of living abroad, meets a strange man in a Shanghai airport and ends up carrying a mysterious briefcase with an attached wrist shackle home with him. Back in the small town of Lilly's End, Layne must cope with more than just the effects of his past indiscretions and his recently deceased father's funeral. Each day at precisely 1123, the small town of Lilly's End sinks into violent chaos, and people are dying. Cut off from the rest of the world by a strict military quarantine and with the population in rapid decline, Layne and his friends wait with dread as the clock ticks downward.

"Completely blew me away. ELEVEN TWENTY-THREE is by far one of the most intelligent, funny, stark, exciting books released this year..."--FlamesRising.com

"This story was creative, wild, and forces you to pay attention to it at every step. But even if you do, there is more than meets the eye, and will give you something to think about long after you put the book down."--Patrick D'Orazio, author of COMES THE DARK

Eleven TwentyThree edition by Jason S Hornsby Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Would have been a five without the constant references to which narrative tricks we're using today (kids), and "Look at me, I'm a cool slacker" crap.

That said, the idea was fun, the book paid homage to a boatload of fun conspiracy theories, and went in directions I didn't expect. No punches are pulled when describing the titular time's violent episodes. Definately recommend it.
I don't usually leave reviews but felt compelled to for this incredible book. Living in Florida made the setting much more realistic but I would've enjoyed it even if I didn't. If the rest of his books are half this good then I'll be checking them out. It is hard to put down and leaves you worried about the characters as the plot plays out.
'Eleven Twenty-Three' is a fantastic surreal mixture that combined creates a stunning reality. It feels alive. It has wordplay without equal. It is intelligent and informative. It's ahh and ohh. Funny. Unique. Inappropriate. Reflective. I'm sold.

It has gone straight into private hitlist along with 'John Dies at the End' and '-14 -'.
One of the few books, I've ever given a five star rating.
I really enjoyed this book. It was full of action and suspense and I was surprised by the ending which I love. It was certainly a much different type of story than I've been reading lately which is very refreshing since everything seems to be the same lately like zombies or a haunted house. This was certainly not that. I recommend it
Very well written. Reminds me a bit of William Gibson's work,in that the characters are all terribly unlikable and self absorbed. I got past hating every single character in the book because the story was so original and the writing was sharp. Unfortunately, much like the television show Lost, I kept thinking that there was no way the author could logically wrap the whole thing up. I was right in thinking that. I read anything that I think might be in the least bit interesting. For me the worst sin is finishing a story and feeling cheated, feeling like I wasted my time. That's how I felt at the end of the book. Impossible medical/technological control of large population? Completely unnecessary plot devices to bring the protagonist into the story? Global plots that make no sense? Yes, yes, and yes. ALL THAT BEING SAID, I WILL LOOK FOR THE AUTHORS NEXT BOOK. HORNSBY IS VERY TALENTED.
The book was a little slow to get going, but I'm glad that I continued reading. I liked the overall plot, even if the "witty banter" was a little overdone. Quite frankly, I don't know anyone who talks the way that the characters in this book do, but I don't usually spend a lot of my free time conversing with intellectuals...

That being said, the book has lots of strong points from conspiracies to the circular pattern of life. The multiple mini stories within the book, captured as memories and visions, were a nice touch that kept my attention. Looking forward to more by this author.
This book was an amazing read, although I've found a lot of the reviews to be very disheartening. It centers around Layne Prescott and his girlfriend Tara returning to Florida from China to attend a funeral. From there, everything goes berserk. This book abounds with conspiracy theories, strange happenings and lots of questions. I will say that you have definitely have to pay attention in order to get the answers to those questions, and some questions are left unanswered, but overall all this was an incredible book. It is not for everyone as there are many troubling sequences that left even me (not normally bothered by extreme imagery) a little disturbed, but it didn't feel like the author was trying to push anything over the edge just for a shock factor. The bottom line is this was a very smart and well written book with many twists and turns that left me wanting more. I can't wait to explore Mr. Hornsby's other works.
